Lon Wa Buddhist Temple of Davao

February 17, 2013 0 Comments

Lon Wa Buddhist Temple, also known as LongHua temple is one of the biggest temple in the Philippines and probably the biggest in Mindanao. Renowned for its intricate architecture and interiors, this shrine is definitely one of the must visit attractions in Davao City.

Lon Wa temple is open to all visitors who wants to marvel to its unique architectural designs, sculptures, statues and interiors, or those interested on the teachings of buddhism.  This fascinating shrine is located along J.P Cabaguio avenue, Agdao District., just a walking distance from Davao Medical Center.

Davao Bloggers

A big thanks to Davao Bloggers for initiating this event as it gives me the opportunity to meet new friends and  take a tour on this serene place. This is a great way to celebrate my 2013's Chinese New Year.

Upon arriving at the shrine, a big smiling Buddha statue facing the entrance will greet you a warm welcome. A friendly and very accommodating security guard will assist you and will serve as your tour guide that will lead the way inside the building. He will tell you anything he knew about the history of the place and teachings of Buddhism so you better listen to your jolly tour guide. ^_~

The main hall serves as their praying room, it is the place for the migrants and Chinese community to reflect and pay respect. You can go inside the hall to take a closer look of the well polished ceilings and Buddha statues provided that you take off your shoes.

At the back of the main hall lies the thousand-armed golden colored statue Kuan Yina. You can light 3 joss sticks and wish for the best luck for you and your whole family. There are several wood carving along the hallway that tells you the life of buddha. Words of wisdom are also imprinted along the walls of the temple.

The temple is open from 7:30am up to 5pm. There's no entrance fee so you can take a tour inside anytime you want. Although the place is pretty simple and solemn, the serenity of the place is more than enough invitation for those visitors who wants a retreat from the tiring life of the city.

As we wave goodbye on this experience, I realized that despite the different beliefs, teachings and religions we have, no matter how diverse we are, we can still live altogether in a peaceful community..
