An encounter with nature at Hagimit Falls

March 19, 2013 , , 0 Comments

After I got the invitation from one of my High School friend/band mate Vik, I immediately fixed my schedules and packed up my things for a one whole day of joyride adventure at Samal Island. We headed towards Peña Plata, a district of Samal where the famous Hagimit Falls was located.

This isn’t the first time I’ll be in Hagimit Falls but it’s been a while since the last time I got into this natural bliss of nature. The surrounding got its share of lush Hagimit trees which serves as a natural shade from the heat of the sun. That’s where they got the name of the falls by the way.

I can’t help but noticed the big improvements on the entire site after we finally arrived at the entrance area. It is already gated. They now have guards and staffs on duty ensuring the safety of the visitors and tourists inside the site. You can now conveniently trek down to the falls since they’ve built a stairway. It’s a welcome development for the visitors who do not want to experience a rocky, slippery trail.

I remembered the first time I visited the place; it was so enchanting, beautiful and virgin. There are still no traces of human operations, no cottages, no stairs, and no manipulated cascades. It was then a true bliss with its unspoiled rainforest. I was only high school then. Now I’m already 20+ (ehem) and the place has changed a lot. Well, at least they didn’t sacrificed any trees just for the development of the nature park’s sake. Despite of the changes made on the streamlines, it’s a relief to see the developers did a good job on maintaining the natural beauty of this tourist destination. I still enjoyed the fresh ice cold breeze water from the cliff. Nature lovers could still enjoy the tropical rainforest feel and the cool refreshing feel of the cascading waters.

Since we arrived early, we had almost every spots that we can enjoy all by ourselves. As soon as we had put down our backpacks, my friends Vik, March, John Paul and Jon Karl wasted no time and immediately dive off the water while I was busy taking pictures of them. After taking some decent shots on the area for this blog post, I joined the group that is already having fun on the cold waterfalls ^_~

Hagimit Falls is a cascade of small waterfalls that stream into a natural catch basin of cool waters. It is located at PeñaPlata, a District of Samal. Hagimit Falls and Nature Park is a widely popular summer destination in Davao Region. With it's touch of tropical rainforest with a crystal clear, icy cold and very soothing water, this is a place perfect for family outings, barkada bonding and nature lovers.

PS: This trip will not be possible if not because of Vik. This trip serves as a Farewell outing/bonding for our friend who will be leaving Philippines for 3years. Bon Voyage my friend.!
