VISIT SAMAL: Seagrass Beach Resort

A resort that offers rustic bleached beach is an ideal refugee to escape from the hectic and fast paced urban life. And for those who are on a tight budget like me but wants to enjoy the heat of the sun and the sea, check out SEAGRASS BEACH RESORT.


 Seagrass Beach Resort is located at Barangay San Miguel, Peñaplata, Samal Island, a 20 minute ride from the port of Babak. It is located at a secluded part of Samal Island which offers exclusivity great for Barkada outings, family gatherings and adventurous souls like you.

My high school friends planned an overnight outing for our huling hirit sa tag-init. Although the original plan was to go to Talicud, we find ourselves at the grassed shores of Seagrass Beach Resort.

Bamboo bridge and the floating cottages

The resort offers a great way to enjoy your summer getaway. One of its unique feature is the elongated bamboo bridge that goes into the deeper sea where you can enjoy diving and swimming at the 14 feet deep sea of Davao Gulf at high tide. No worries for those who don’t know how to swim because the resort has a rentable life vests good for whole day use.

Seagrass resort also has swimming pools for kids and kids at heart. The infinity pool seats in at the upper part near the entrance area of the resort. It is free of use until 11pm. The second pool features an S shaped slide that gives extra thrill and excitement. With your 150Php, you can enjoy unlimited use of slides until 11pm.

If you are planning for an overnight stay, there’s a lot of cottages to choose from. For as low as 300Php you can have one of the open cottages at the beach front area. If you want more privacy you can rent out the floating cottages. If you are in a group then you can rent air-conditioned rooms good for 6 pax. Or if you want more adventures, you can rent out their tents and find a perfect spot convenient for you. (see rates at the bottom of the post)

There’s a lot of things you can do at Seagrass beach resort. You can play basketball, billiards, dart and volleyball. Kids can enjoy the swings or have fun at the wide field. At night local bands and performers will serenade you with different kinds of music. At the back of the stage is a mini bar which sells exotic foods, soft drinks and hard drinks. The resort also have a store which sells chichiryas, hot water, cold waters, drinks in can, breads and etc. Their bathrooms and comfort rooms are well maintained. With its complete amenities, Seagrass is truly a recommended place to chill out and enjoy a peaceful, serene and tranquil vacation at the beach.

How To Get to Seagrass Beach Resort

From Davao City, there are two ways to get into Seagrass Beach Resort.
  1. Go directly to sasa wharf and hail a barge to babak. At babak, you can ride a habal-habal. Just tell the driver you are going at Seagrass beach resort. It will only take 30 minutes from babak to seagrass resort. fares are 10Php for the barge and 40-50Php for habal-habal.
  2. Take a bus bound for Peñaplata at sta. ana wharf. Just tell the conductor or driver to drop you at the entry point of Seagrass Beach Resort.
