A Day Tour to Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental

Lakawero at Governor Generoso

A breeze of cold morning air welcomed us as we wait to board on our service van at Davao City around 3:00am last may 5, 2013. Summer may soon come to its last stretch but it was still the start of my ultimate summer adventure at Sigaboy, Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental. Better late than never right? :)

It was Olan and Sarah's idea to explore the southern most part of Davao Oriental. What awaits us there? That I have no idea until the very day we left Davao City to take the road less traveled towards the province of Governor Generoso, formerly known as Sigaboy.

From Davao City to Gov. Generoso, it will take 4 hours so we stopped at Davao Oriental Welcome Park first to have our breakfast. Davao Oriental Park features a 500-step shrine of the Cross overlooking the beautiful mountainous landscape of both Compostela Valley province and Davao Oriental that visitors and tourists would surely enjoy. We weren't able to try the 500-steps shrine due to our late departure.

After we had our meals, we then headed to our destination. Governor Generoso lies at the coastal part of Davao Oriental. The simple yet peaceful life they have was a total peace of mind. I feel like I was in new world where simplicity and stillness was at its best. Locals hospitality makes me eager to know more about their town and their best kept gems. ^_^

it's like a turtle. I call it the Turtle Island. lol

Our first stop was at Tibanban shores. Tibanban was known as the Fishing Capital of Davao Oriental. Although dark clouds wrapped up the whole sky, I was still amazed by the beautiful seascape created by the colorful fishing boats on the foreground and the stunning Sigaboy Island at the background. It was a shutter heaven for a photographer wannabe me.

I created a separate blog post about Sigaboy Island here

From Tibanban shores, we hop in a fishing boat that will lead us to the separated island. This island was named from the former name of Gov. Generoso., Sigaboy Island. I have done few things here. I took photographs, climb the rocky side of the island and challenged the steep and slippery trek towards the Parola present at the top most part of it. The view above was astounding and stunning. The naturally shaped green scenery and the amazing view of the seascape from afar was all worth the hike.

After our lunch at Tibanban, we are now ready to reach our final destination, Cape San Agustin, located at the southern most tip of Davao Oriental. It was a total of 2 hours travel time since we made sure to stop at the key spots along our way. First was at the View Deck, we spend about 5 minutes to get some good photographs. picture picture kasi minsan lang to.!

Second, the Centennial Tree. This enchanting Mamacao tree has been alive for more than 300 years already. Like the rest of the group, I was amazed about this gigantic tree standing tall and proud. Story tells that there are fairies guarding and protecting this tree all through out the years. But they welcome guests and visitors. wag kayong matakot, smiling face man sila :))

After our stop over at the Centennial Tree, the long hours of travel to reach our final destination has begun. Rain welcomed us as we get closer to Cape San Agustin and because of that, our van can no longer risk to move further due to the muddy road so we need to trek the remaining less than kilometer rough road. There's no turning back so we accepted the challenge and trek the muddy, slippery rough road with barefoot. It was almost 30 minutes of painful traipse till we reached the southern most tip of Davao Oriental. yey!

We were greeted by these tall centuries old Parolas at the tip of Davao Oriental. I was fascinated by the beauty of these Parolas that I cared less about the danger of falling while climbing on one of the lighthouses. I feel dizzy everytime I take one step towards the peak but I just can't get enough of the breathtaking view it offers above so went up even further to take an even better view. I was stoked. The real beauty of nature refreshes my body and soul and for once in my life, I was able to appreciate the true bliss of God's creation. What a wonderful way to erase the painful trek I had earlier.

I reached another milestone in my travel diary. To see the Last Islet. It is the last islet in the southern most part of the Davao Oriental I believe. The sound of the raging waves from the Pacific ocean slamming the last standing islet was just like music to my ears taking away all the stress inside me just like a constant pain relief. The melodic music of simplicity created by the winds and waves in this place gives much joy and inspiration on the adventure seeker side of me. And yes, I had the time to commune with nature at this majestic place of Governor Generoso. It was memorable. ^_^

Pink Sand Beach

After a minute of reflection and appreciation, I finally rest my backpack in one of the bushes scattered on the shores of Cape San Agustin and finally gave in to the inviting waves of the Pacific ocean kissing the innocent powdery sands of Pink Sand Beach. I find peace and serenity.

Suroy-Suroy sa Sigaboy: A Day Tour to Gov. Generoso, Davao Oriental was a huge success. Congratulations to the organizers Sir Olan Embuscado and Ma'am Sarah Elizar and to the 40+ equally adventurous souls who take part on this event. That includes me.. ^__^
