Things to do in Baguio City - Famous Tourist Attractions

Renowned as the 'Summer capital of the Philippines', Baguio City has made its mark as the premiere tourist destination in the Philippines during summer due to its cool climate which gives a refreshing break from the hot and humid weather of the country.

There are a lot of tourist attractions Baguio City can offer to the locals and tourists alike. From its rich culture and history to the heritage sites, museums, recreational parks and the ever friendly locals. So, to help you out on your itinerary, I created a list of things to do/places to visit while you're in the City of Pines.

Burnham Park

Designed by and named after premier American architect and urban planner, Daniel Burnham. It is one of the famous tourist attractions in Baguio considering its location that lies at the heart of the city. Burnham Park remains, to this day, one of the Philippines' most well known and best-loved parks.

The park features a man-made lake situated at the center where locals and tourists alike can enjoy boating with the rented boats. There is also a skating rink at the southern part of the park. There are bike rentals if one so wishes. They even have small bikes for the little kids. There are a lot of vendors at any side of the park if you wish to buy stuff.

Mines View Park

Mines View Park is undoubtedly the most visited park in the city offering a great panoramic view of Benguet's gold and copper mines from the viewing deck. The best time to visit the park is early in the morning to have the best view of the mountain unfolds since the area will be covered entirely with fog in the afternoon especially during the rainy season.

There are various stalls around the park offering souvenirs and other stuff. A lot more activities you can enjoy such as photo taking with the igorot costumes and/or while riding the pink horse. Mines View Park is your best next destination after visiting The Mansion or Wright Park.

Wright Park

Wright Park is just in front of The Mansion and is very accessible with all types of transportation. It has a long pool (pool of pines) lined with pine trees and flowers. Right below the Wright park lies the horse riding circle where there are 200 horses for rent. Young ones and young at heart can enjoy riding a pony for one hour or half. No worries for you fellas who don't know who to ride for the owners themselves will assist you at all times if you want.

During summer, some Igorots dressed in their native attire are willing to pose for a photograph provided that you pay them 10 pesos per shot. Take the chance to pose with them and help them in your own little way by giving them some pennies. ^_~

The Mansion

The mansion is the official summer residence of the President of the Philippines. Originally built around the 1900s, this house was damaged during the 2nd world war and was rebuilt during 1947. Since then it has been used by various Philippine presidents whenever they visit Baguio City.

Tourists are allowed to enter the gate when the president is not in residence. The mansion is one of the famous landmarks of Baguio city and it is just right across the wright park. So right after taking your postcards, you can eventually head to Wright park.

PMA Heritage Site

Philippine Military Academy of Baguio City serves as the training school of our Armed Forces for the past centuries already. Although it is located a few kilometers from downtown, it will be worth your trip. Visitors are welcome to explore the grounds as long as you leave your Identification card on the entrance.

To get to PMA via jeepney, take the Plaza-Loakan-PMA jeepney from the City center. Fare costs 13 pesos.

Bell Church

Bell church is located north of Baguio just before the boundary of Baguio and La-Trinidad, Benguet. Bell church has intricately designed temples, pagodas and arches adorned with dragons and bells that are perfectly matched with the beautifully landscaped garden.

Artifacts of Buddhism and some literature about the history of China can be found inside the temple. Visitors can pray for good fortunes to the Gods. To get to Bell Church, take a jeepney bound to La-Trinidad, Benguet and just tell the driver to drop you at Bell Church.

BenCab Museum

BenCab Museum houses the great artworks of Ben Cabrera - A Filipino painter that was awarded as the "National Artist of the Philippines for visual arts painting in 2006." and has been noted as the best selling painter of his generation of Filipino artists. See best of the best collections of paintings, artifacts and artworks in one exciting place.

You can catch a jeepney at baguio city public market bound to Asin/Tuba. It would take about 15-20 minutes to ride from the city center. Fare costs 12 pesos. Prepare 100 pesos for the entrance fee while 80 pesos if you're a student or a senior citizen.

How to get to Baguio City

Baguio City is located in the northern part of Luzon particularly at the province of Benguet. It is a 6 to 7 hours of bus ride from Metro Manila. You can either take the Victory Liner bus or the Genesis at Pasay or Cubao. Fare ranges from 600Php to 1000Php depending on the class.

    1. Hi Simply Cate, you can visit all of these within a day, but it really depends on how much time you will spend in each place. I think it's safe to say (you can visit them all in) 2 days.
